Dear Sterling Woods Unit Owner:

Please see below from Mike Hoffman, the owner of Hoffman Landscapes (our snow vendor):

The forecast is calling for a significant storm with up to a foot of snow accumulation tomorrow.  This will be a challenging storm for the Sterling Woods crew.  At our pre-storm meeting this morning, we discussed our priorities for during and after the storm.  Our priorities are as follows, in order:

  1. Main Roads
  2. Side Roads
  3. Driveways
  4. Unit Walkways
  5. Common Walkways

During the peak of the storm, when the snow is predicted to fall at a rate of 2” or more per hour, we will be focusing on roads exclusively.  At the end of the storm, we will finish clearing the roads first and then move through the neighborhood clearing driveways and walkways.  It can take up to 12 hours to clean up after a storm of this size.

We also have two requests for the Sterling Woods residents that are very important and have a major impact on how quickly we can recover from an event like this:

1.  SAFETY:  Please be careful walking in the neighborhood during the storm.  Keep in mind that it is very difficult for our drivers to see pedestrians when it is snowing heavily.  If you must go outside during the storm, please use your garage as access instead of your front steps/walkway.

2.  PARKING:  Please park cars inside garages.  If this is not possible, please park cars in driveways, close to the garage doors.  Please do not leave any cars parked in visitor parking areas.  During the storm, we will be moving thousands of tons of snow into these lots and onto the landscape beyond.  If there are cars in the visitor parking lots, we will end up having to pile snow in the roads, which may block access to these cars.  The parking areas at the beginning and end of Cypress and the parking areas at the end of Revere are particularly important…the crew needs to move snow through these parking areas and onto the landscape beyond.

Sincerely,

Mike Hoffman, President, Hoffman Landscapes, Inc.

Dear Sterling Woods Residents:

Please see below from Hoffman Landscapes, the Association's snow vendor, sent at 2:30 p.m. today.

From Hoffman Landscapes:  The equipment operators arrived on site and started plowing roads this afternoon at around one inch of accumulation.  Right now, we are expecting precipitation to end between 7:00pm and 9:00pm.  We will continue plowing the roads and clearing the common walkways throughout the storm and will shovel unit drives and unit walkways starting at the end of the storm.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me at kmurray@rei-pm.net.  If you have an emergency, you can also call REI at 203-744-8400 and hit 0.

Thank you.

Dear Sterling  Woods Residents:

Please see below from the Association's snow vendor, Mike Hoffman, regarding the February 15, 2016 snowstorm.

From the snow vendor:  We have an interesting storm situation that will happen tonight.  We are expecting 1”-3” of snow, then sleet, then rain, all ending tonight around 2:00am.  With this particular storm, we are not worried about the snow, but we are concerned about the sleet and rain.  Because the temperatures were so cold this past weekend, the ground (asphalt, concrete) is now about 18 degrees.  Any sleet or rain that lands on those surfaces is going to freeze into a layer of ice.  In fact, the ground is so cold that we expect icing to occur even at air temperatures well above freezing.

As such, here is the plan for this storm:  We are going to start by applying a layer of Magic Salt on the roads and driveways to help get us through the evening rush hour.  We will keep the roads plowed during the storm, but plan to leave the snow on the walkways and driveways until the rain has stopped falling.  That looks like it will happen around 2:00am.  We will then clear the walks and driveways and apply another layer of material before the morning rush hour.

Normally, I would be concerned with residents asking why we were holding off on the shoveling after the changeover to rain.  However, since this is all likely to play out in the middle of the night, I doubt anyone will notice.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at kmurray@rei-pm.net.

Dear Sterling Woods Residents:

Please see below - a note from the Association's snow vendor (Hoffman Landscapes):

The snow started this morning at around 4:00 a.m. and started to stick closer to 5:00 a.m.  The snow continued to fall moderately until noon and looks to end around 1:00 p.m.  We are expecting from 3.5 to 7 inches throughout the area and a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until at least 1:00 p.m.

Ivandir (head supervisor) and the equipment crew were out a Sterling Woods at 5:30 a.m. and have been keeping roads open throughout.  The shovelers are scheduled to arrive by 1:00 p.m. and should have everything completed by 5:00 p.m. or so.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at kmurray@rei-pm.net.

Dear Sterling Woods Residents:

Please see below from our snow vendor, Hoffman Landscapes, regarding the upcoming snow storm (sent to me at 6:18 p.m. on January 22).

Good Evening:

We have been monitoring this storm for a week now, and it will finally arrive tonight. It looks to us like a 3"-6" event. It will start with light snow early tomorrow morning, get heavier during the day, and taper off sometime around midnight Saturday night.

The crews are prepped and ready to go.  They will keep the roads open during the storm, and if all goes according to the forecast, all work should be complete on Sunday morning.
